T-Ball Chapter One

Sophie has signed up for T-ball on Friday nights. For the second week in a row, she actually graced the rest of the team with her presence and decided to take the field (after several minutes of explaining to me how she was "too shy" to play T-ball. Anyway, if you've never been to a T-ball game, I highly recommend it. In my opinion, this is the most entertaining event going on just about anywhere on a Friday night. I really don't think it matters if your kid is playing or not - it is so damn funny. Sophie did well, tagging a kid out, getting on base a couple of times (an accomplishment but not necessarily a challenge)

If I knew what to call it, I'd give it a title

It's a good thing that pictures are worth a thousand words because I am not sure a thousand words words could describe what Sophie was up to this evening. Mom, we loved the olive oil, thanks. Sophie LOVED what it came in and has been occupied all evening.

Pics from a day at the races (mostly by Sophie)

Why she feels compelled to take pics like this, I'll never know:

Go Sox!

Sophie, Ella, Bob and I took in the Sox game yesterday. It was a beautiful day, the Sox won and we got to see several homers by "the good guys". Sophie's been listening to local announcer "Hawk" Harrelson a bit too much because I typically don't refer to either teams on the field as "good guys" or "bad guys" but she seems to have picked up these designations.

After we filled the girls up on pizza, popcorn, cotton candy, and ice cream, they seemed content. Sophie took a lot of pictures, as you can tell by the random shots of the field, the back's of people's heads, and an account of pretty much EVERYTHING Ella did that day.
Sophie pays pretty good attention to the game for a kid her age. After a strike-out by second basemen Jayson Nix, in the first, she proceeded to give me a lecture on why he struck out. "He didn't keep his eye on the ball. You have to keep your eye on the ball or you're never going to hit it. The pitcher was pitching a little low and he kept swinging high. If he was watching the ball, he would have seen that and swung high." This went on, non-stop, for a good 5 minutes. She kills me.

At about the 7th inning, the girls were restless enough to take them over to the play area in left field. Now Sophie could put her money where her mouth is. She pitched the ball at A. J. Incidentally, A. J. is still her favorite player, followed at a very close second by rookie Gordon Beckham. Go figure. She didn't knock over the A. J. doll but she could at least reach him with her throw this year.
She also got to step into the batting cage and took a few swings at the ball. She did pretty well but I think she thought that the idea of having the ball attached to something and set up to hit was ridiculous. I hope she isn't disenchanted when she starts T-ball in a few weeks and finds out there's no pitcher.

Kiddieland!

I love the serious driving face.......

Sunday was a beautiful, sunny day so we decided to meet some good friends out at Kiddieland in Melrose Park. A LOT of other people had the same idea, but although it was crowded, the lines for the rides weren't too bad and the kids had a ball. I'm so sad that Kiddieland will be closing after this season. It is definitely a classic! Enjoy the pictures.
