Christmas 2008

We had a great Christmas this year and Sophie spent it with her friends, Ella and Sophie Mei. They opened presents, had a lot to eat, and then, of course, hilarity insued.Nothing says the holidays like lounging around in your Sox garb
and taking in the Christmas specials. The flashlights were a big hit.Elefun nets: more comfortable than lampshades

Thanksgiving 2008

Sophie's Thanksgiving photos.

It seems that she's able to capture things on the camera that no one else can.
Thanksgiving was great and produced some great photos but add a few mai tais
and a Christmas Tree to the mix and all of the sudden: We actually did have a sedate moment over the weekend. We spent the day with the family at the Field Museum. Thanksgiving can't be all crazy faces and food, can it?

Daddy Fun Day: Handprint Turkeys

Sophie had the day off from school on Veteran's Day so I decided to take the day as well and spend it doing some crafts with her. We spent several hours at Michael's picking out beads and such for a "Martha" ornament project we'll be doing in a few weeks and we also picked up some things to make place cards for the family members coming to Thanksgiving dinner.

Sophie is a very good cutter, gluer, and printer. I had to trace out the feathers, cut out the hand tracings and I also added glitter to all the names but she did pretty much everything else. It was a fun day and I think the turkeys turned out pretty good. Hopefully our be-jeweled birds for Christmas come out just as good.

A Perfect Day for a Dog Wedding?

It was pretty cold this weekend but it didn't stop OPers (us included) from coming out for what hoped to be the world's largest Dog Wedding. Sophie had an absolute ball - being surrounded by so many puppies. As you can see, quite a few people got a little out of hand for the occasion.

Halloween 2008

I decided to take the day off today - to give me some time for much needed pre-winter projects on the house and to see Sophie perform in her first concert. I am ashamed to admit - with Sophie's acute sense of shyness, I was ready to not see much of anything and was starting to get concerned if I was going to be upset I wasted time off to see my daughter stand in the corner. Boy was I wrong. Not only did Sophie put on her costume for the show but she sang every song. I was even more shocked that she was not one of the hanhdful of kids crying for mommy and daddy during the show. This is so remarkable for her and we are very proud. Sophie stood next to her new best friend, Maggie, during the entire show. If we can figure it out, we'll upload the video tomorrow. When she arrived home later, we carved the pumpkins (of course, we had to take the ubiquitous "puppy" picture) and she put on her costume once more to go trick or treating.
She is very excited by the whole thing but doesn't really have the stamina to go more than a block.
